젊은 시절  세일즈맨으로
  이집 저집을   방문하며
       물건을 팔러 다녔다.

어느 날 한
노인 댁을  방문하게  되었는데,

그 집을  들어 서자 마자

<카네기>를  완전히
     압도해 버린 것이 있었다.

<그것>은

  <그 집>의 <벽> 가운데   걸린 <그림> 이었다.

그 그림은
황량해  보이기 까지 한 

쓸쓸한  해변(海邊)에

낡아 빠진 배 젖는 <노(櫓)>가
썰물에  밀려

흰  백사장(白沙場) 에
   제멋대로  널려있는 <그림>이었다.

그런데
<그 그림>  하단(下段)에 는

< '반드시>  <밀물 때가 온다>.'  라는
              <짧은 글귀>가  적혀  있었다.

<카네기>는

<그림>과 <글귀>에
  크게  감명을 받았다.

집에 돌아와서도 그는

그 그림으로 인하여
잠을 이룰 수 없었다.

그래서 다시
그 노인댁을  찾아가

그 노인에게  부탁하기를

세상을 떠나실 때에는
그 그림을

자신에게 꼭 달라고
간곡히 부탁하였다.

그의 간절한 부탁은
받아 들여져

결국 그 노인은
그 그림을  카네기 에게 주었는데,

카네기는
그의 사무실  한 가운데에

그 그림을  일생 동안 걸어 놓았다.

'반드시 밀물 때가 온다.'는
메세지와  함께  그 그림은

카네기의 일생을  좌우한
굳건한  신조(信條)가  되었던 것이다.

<썰물>이 있으면  반드시  <밀물>의 때가 온다.

내리막  길이 있으면   오르 막 길이 있고,
  밤이 있으면  낮이 있는  법이다.

그러므로

오늘이 썰물같이 황량하다 해도
낙심하지 말라.

곧 < 밀물 >때가  오리라.

지금이  내리막 길이라고  절망 하지 말라.

내리막 끝에
오르막 길이 있어

높이 오를 수 있을  것이고,
현재가  암흑(暗黑)이라고  포기 하지 말라.

밤이 깊으면  곧 <동이 틀 것>이니,
                 희망을 놓지 마라.

세상에서
가장 중요한  일들은

가망이 없는것 처럼 보이는 데도,

끝까지 노력하는

     <낙동강>까지  밀고  내려와

이승만  대통령 께서
대한민국  정부(政府)를

<제주도> 나  <하와이> 로
    <망명 정부>를  세우려 할 때

<대한민국>을
   위기(危機)에서  <구 해준>
