391. 삶의 여유

삶의 여유

세상을 살아가면서
무슨 일이 벌어지든
내가 구애받지 않는 것을 해탈이라고 합니다.

배를 타고 바다에 나가면서
바람도 불지 말고
파도도 치지 마라~!
이렇게 바라는 것이 아니고

‘바람아 불려면 불어라
파도야 치려면 쳐라,
나는 이미 좋은 배를 마련해 놓았고 좋은 항해술을 습득했기에
그 정도는 문제 없다.‘

이런 마음가짐이 해탈입니다.

처음 만났을 때
남편이 그렇게 착해보여도 살아보면 맘에 안드는 구석이 있고

내가 낳아서
내 마음대로 키운 아이도 내 말을 잘 안 듣는데,
어떻게 세상 일이
내 생각대로만
되겠습니까~?

파도가 일면
파도를 타고 가면 되고
파도가 일지 않으면
조용히 즐기면 됩니다.

세상 일이
내 생각대로
안 된다고 전혀 구애받을 일이 없습니다.

인간이 신에게 질문을 했다.
"인간에게서 가장 놀라운 점이 무엇인가요?"

신께서 대답하셨다.
"돈벌기 위해 건강을 잃어버리는 것이다.
그리고는 건강을 되찾기 위해 다시 돈을 잃는 것이다."

"그리고 또 한 가지는
미래를 염려하느라 현재를 놓쳐버리는 것이다. 그리하여 현재도 미래도 행복하게 잘 살지 못하는 것이란다."

나이를 먹어갈수록 무엇보다 건강이
가장 소중한 것이랍니다.

오늘도 내일도 매일매일 정신과 육체의 건강을 균형있게 조절하며 즐겁게 살아가면 얼마나 좋겠습니까?

A human being asked a question to God.
"What is the most surprising thing about humans?"

God answered.
"You lose your health to make money.
And then you lose money again to get back to health."

You lose sight of the present because you are concerned about the future. Therefore, neither the present nor the future can

live happily."

As we get older, health is more important than anything else
It's the most precious thing.

390. 함께 웃고 나눌 수 있는 고마운 친구

인생(人生)이란 긴 여정(旅程) 속에서 어느 순간 사랑(愛情)도 열정(熱情)도
조금씩 희미해져 가는 나이가 찾아옵니다.

중년(中年)을 넘어서면 더 이상 앞만 보고 달리는 대신, 남은 길을 누구와 어떻게 걸을지를 생각하게 되죠.

“이제는 삶의 속도(速度)를 줄이고,마음의 여백(餘白)을 채워가며 살아야 한다”
많은 이들이 이렇게 말합니다.

그래서 우리는 삶의 무게(重量)를 조금 내려놓고, 여유(餘裕)와 기쁨(喜悅) 속에서 자신을 다시 만나는 법을 배워야 합니다.

함께 웃고, 함께 나누며, 때로는 묵묵히 곁을 지켜주는 친구(親舊). 그런 벗이 있다면 남은 세월(歲月)은 더없이 따뜻하고 풍요로운 날들이 될 것입니다.

술잔(酒盞)을 기울이며 속 깊은 이야기를 나누고,

산(山)과 바다(海)를 걸으며 자연(自然)의 숨결을 느끼고,

저녁 노을(夕霞) 아래 서로의 존재(存在)에 감사하는 시간(時間).

그런 순간(瞬間)들을 함께 할 벗이 있다면 우리는 어떤 고단한 날도 삶의 이유(理由)를 다시 찾을 수 있습니다.

하지만 나이가 들수록 이런 인연(因緣)을 만나고 지키는 일은 쉽지 않죠.

산에 가자하면 무릎(膝)이 아프고, 술 한잔하자 하면 건강(健康)이 걱정되고, 여행(旅行)을 떠나자해도 바쁜 생활(生活)에 발맞추기가 어렵습니다.

그럼에도 진정한 벗은 이런 어려움(困難)을 넘어 우리 곁에 남아주는 사람입니다.

힘들 때에도 마음이 흔들릴 때에도
     언제나 함께할 수 있는 사람.

다름(異)을 이해(理解)하며 진심(眞心)으로    
     함께 즐길 수 있는 사람.

나이(年齡)와 상관없이 마음(心)의 깊이로
     이어지는 사람.

그런 친구(親舊)와 함께라면 우리는 나이를 먹는 대신 “멋지게 성숙(成熟)해질” 수 있습니다.

지금이 늦었다고 느껴진다면 그건 당신이 여전히 젊다는 뜻입니다. 지금부터라도 인연(因緣)을 소중히 여기고 남은 시간을 사랑(愛)으로 채워봅시다.

남은 길은 덤(贈)이 아니라 가장 빛나는 여정이 될 수 있습니다. 언제까지나 진정한 벗으로 서로의 길을 환히 비춰주는 우리가 되길 바랍니다.

A friend (親舊) who laughs together, shares together, and sometimes silently stands by his side. With such a friend, the rest of the 歲 will be a warm and prosperous day.

Tilting the glass (酒盞) into a deep conversation,

Walking through the mountains and the sea, you feel the breath of 然,

Time to appreciate each other's existence (存在) under the evening sunset (夕霞).

If we have a friend to share those moments (瞬間), we can find the 由 of life again on any difficult day.

But as you get older, it's not easy to meet and protect these relationships (因緣).

When I go to the mountain, my knees (膝) hurt, when I ask for a drink, I worry about my health (健康), and even when I want to go on a 旅, it is difficult to keep up with my busy 活.

Nevertheless, a true friend is a person who remains by our side beyond these difficulties (困難).

Even when you're having a hard time or when your heart is shaking
     A person who can always be with you.

with the understanding of differences (just 解) and with the heart of 眞    
     a person to enjoy with.

in the depth of one's heart, regardless of one's 齡
     a follower.

With that kind of friend (親

舊), we can "熟 beautifully" instead of getting older.

If you feel like it's too late, that means you're still young. From now on, let's cherish our relationship (因緣) and spend the rest of our time with love (愛).

The rest of the way is not a 贈, but a shining journey. I hope we will always be true friends and shine a bright light on each other's path.)

389. 사랑은 모든 것

Love is Everything
(사랑은 모든 것입니다)

~첫번째 이야기

  다섯 명의 자식을 둔 아버지가 있었습니다.
그 중 한 명의 아들이 유독 병약하고
총명하지도 못하여 형제들 속에서조차 주눅 들어 있는 아들이 아버지는 늘 가슴 아팠다고 합니다.

어느 하루,
아버지는 다섯 그루의 나무를 사 왔습니다.
그리고 다섯 명의 자식들에게 한 그루씩 나누어 주며 1년이라는 기한을 주었지요.

가장 잘 키운 나무의 주인에게는 뭐든 원하는 대로 해 주겠다는 약속과 함께 말입니다.

약속한 1년이 지났습니다.
아버지는 자식들을 데리고 나무가 자라고 있는 숲으로 갔습니다.

놀랍게도 유독 한 그루의 나무가 다른 나무들에 비하여 키도 크고 잎도 무성하게 잘 자라고 있었습니다.

바로 아버지의 가슴을 가장 아프게 하였던
그 아들의 나무였던 게지요.

약속대로
아버지는 아들에게 원하는 것을 물었고,
예상대로 이 아들은 자기가 딱히 무엇을 요구하여야 할지 조차도 말하지도 못하였다고 합니다.

아버지는
이 아들을 향해 큰 소리로 칭찬 하기를 이렇게 나무를 잘 키운 것을 보니 분명 훌륭한 식물학자가 될 것이며 그리 될 수 있도록 온갖 지원을 아끼지 않겠다고 가족 모두들 앞에서 공표 하였지요.

아버지와 형제들로부터
명분 있는 지지와 성원을 한 몸에 받은 이 아들은,
성취감이 고조되어 식물학자가 되겠다는 꿈에 부풀어
그날 밤 잠을 이루지 못하였습니다.

하얗게 밤을 지낸 새벽 잘 자라준 나무가 고맙고
하도 신통하여 숲으로 갔습니다.

어스름한 안개 속에
움직이는 물체가 그의 나무 주변에서 느껴졌고 곧이어 물조리개를 들고 있는 아버지의 모습이 아들의 두 눈에 보였습니다.

그 후 이 아들은 비록 훌륭한 식물학자는 되지 못하였으나, 미국 국민들의 가장 많은 지지와 신뢰를 받은 훌륭한 대통령이 되었습니다.

바로 그분이 세계에 이름을 떨친 《프랭클린 루즈벨트》 대통령이라고 합니다.

미국 최초의 4선 대통령으로서, 오늘날
미국 행정부의 기능과 역할은 그의 통치방식에 힘입은 바 크며,

국내적으로는
1930년대 미국의 대공황 타개를 위하여 뉴딜정책을 추진했고,
대외적으로는 제2차 세계대전 동안 연합국을 지도함으로써, 이후 미국이 세계평화에 기여하는 토대를 마련 하였습니다.

~ 두번째 이야기

아버지, 어머니, 딸 이렇게 세 식구가 모처럼의 가족여행 중에 교통사고가 났습니다.

자동차가 언덕 아래로 구르는 큰 사고였습니다.
어머니만 상처가 가벼울 뿐 아버지와 딸은 모두 크게 다쳐서 병원에 입원 해야했습니다.

특히 딸은 상처가 깊어서 오랫동안 병원치료를 받았음에도 평생 목발을 짚고 다녀야했습니다.

당시 사춘기였던 딸은 무엇보다도
마음의 상처가 깊었습니다.

친구들이 학교에서 체육을 할 때에도 딸은 조용히 그늘에서 그들을 구경만 했습니다.

그나마 같은 목발 신세인 아버지가 딸에게는 큰 위안이 되었습니다.

아버지도 지난 교통사고 이후 목발을 짚어야 하셨던 것입니다.

딸이  그 처지를 누구보다도 잘 아는 아버지가 나서서 말없이 받아주었습니다.

딸에게는 아버지와 같이 공원 벤치에 나란히 목발을 기대놓고 앉아 이런저런 이야기를 나누는 것이 유일한 행복이었습니다.

딸은 힘들고 어려웠던 사춘기를 잘 넘기고 대학을 입학하였고 그 입학식에 아버지도 참석해 주셨습니다.

그 해 어느 날이었습니다.
세 식구가 길을 가고 있었습니다. 마침 그 앞에서 작은 꼬마 녀석이 공놀이를 하고있었습니다.
그런데 공이 큰길로 굴러가자 꼬마는 공을 주우려고 좌우도 살피지 않고 자동차가 오고 있는 큰 길로 뛰어 들었습니다.

이때, 놀라운 일이 벌어졌습니다.
아버지가 목발을 내던지고 큰 길로 뛰어들어 꼬마를 안고 길 건너쪽으로 달려가는 것이었습니다.

순간 딸은 자기 눈을 믿을 수가 없었습니다.

잠시 후
어머니가 딸을 꼬옥 안아주며 딸에게 이렇게 속삭였습니다.

"애야,
이제야 말 할 때가 된 것 같구나. 사실은 너의 아버지는 다리가 전혀 아프지 않으시단다.
퇴원 후에 다 나았거든,
그런데 네가 목발을 짚어야 된다는 사실을 알고 나신 후 아버지도 목발을 짚겠다고자청하셨단다.

너와 아픔을 같이 해야된다고 하시면서 말이다. 이것은 아빠 회사 직원들은 물론 우리 친척들도 아무도 모르는 사실이란다. 오직 나와 아버지만이 아는 비밀이야."

딸은 길 건너에서 손을 흔드시며 어린아이처럼 해맑게 웃으시는아버지를 보면서 오랜시간 자신을 위해 말없이 가슴속에 품었던 아버지의 사랑에 하염없이 눈물을 흘렸습니다.

~ 사람 관계는
   이기고 지는것이없습니다.

잔인하게도 인간은 백번 잘해줘도
한 번의 실수를 기억한다.

사람의 마음은 간사해서
수많은 좋았던 기억보다.
단 한 번의 서운함에 오해하고 실망하며
틀어지는 경우가 참 많아요. 서운함보다
함께한 좋은 기억을 먼저 떠올릴 줄 아는 현명한 사람이 되어야 행복합니다.

내가 먼저 고맙다고 인사하고, 내가 먼저 미안하다고 말한다면 사람관계는 나빠지려고 해야 나빠질 수 없습니다.

사람 관계에서는
이기고 지는것이 없습니다.

먼저 고맙다고
먼저 미안하다고 말하세요.
참, 이런 거 아세요.

식사 후,
적극적으로 밥값을 계산하는 이는
돈이 많아서 그런것이 아니라, 돈보다 사람과의 관계를 더 소중히
생각하기 때문이고,
일할 때, 주도적으로 하는 이는 바보스러워서
그런게 아니라.
책임이라는 것을 알기 때문이고, 다툰 후,
먼저 사과하는 이는
잘못해서 그러는게 아니라, 당신을 아끼기 때문입니다.

늘, 나를 도와주려는 이는 빚진게 있어서 그런게 아니라,
진정한 친구로 생각하기 때문이며, 늘, 안부를 물어주는 이는 한가하고 할 일이 없어서 그러는 게 아니라 마음속에 늘 당신을 기억하고 있기 때문입니다!

잊지 마세요.
한번 맺은 소중한 인연을
아끼고 서로 사랑하는 것이 우리가 함께 살아야할 진정으로 행복한 삶이란 것을...

388. 죽음 체험

제가 정년퇴직 하기 10여년 전에 현직에 있을 때 연차휴가를 내고 모사찰에서 시행하는 템플 스떼이(Temple stay)에 참가한 적이 있었습니다.

4박 5일의 프로그램 중에 (죽음 체험)을 하는 과정이
있었습니다.

템플스테이에 참가한 사람들은 차레대로 삼베옷을 입고 나무로 만든 관 속에 들어가 실제로 죽는것과 같이 죽음을 체험하기 위해 줄 지어서 자기 차례를 기다리고 있었습니다.
참석자들은 자기 차례가 되자 삼베옷을 입고 나무로 만든 관속으로 들어가 누웠습니다.

잠시 후 관뚜껑이 닫혔습니다.
그 관속에서 약 10분 가량 누워 있다가 나왔습니다.
그런데 관에서 나온 사람마다 나올때에 눈물을 뚝뚝 흘리고 나오는 겁니다.

제 차례를 기다리며 지켜 보던 저는 무척 궁금해졌습니다.

저 사람들은 도대체
왜 눈물을 흘리는 것 일까?

그 광경을 지켜보며 줄을 서서 기다리다가 드디어
제 차례가 왔습니다.
저두 삼베옷을 입고 관속으로 들어가 누웠습니다.
곧 이어서 관 뚜껑이 닫혔습니다.

관과 뚜껑 사이로 실처럼 가느다란 빛이 들어왔기에 아주 캄캄한 어둠은 아니라고 생각했습니다.

순간. 관 뚜껑위로 천이 덮혔습니다.
그러자 빛이 하나도 없는 완전한 어둠속에 저는 누워 있었습니다.

"아하. 여기가 무덤 이구나!"

공간은 철저히 분리 됐습니다. 관 속과 관 밖은 아주
달랐습니다.

가장 먼저 떠 오르는 생각은

"관 바깥 세상에 있는 그 어떠한 것도 이 안으로 가지고 올 수가 없구나!"
였습니다.

관 밖에는 많은 것이
있었습니다.

나의 가족. 나의 친구. 내가 하고 있는 일. 내  명예.내 집. 내 차. 내가 늘 보고 읽은 책.내가 아끼는 이런 저런 물건들이 있었습니다.
그러나 관밖에 있는 그 어떤 사람이나 물건도. 관속으로 가지고 들어올 수 없었습니다.

"그렇다면 내가 죽을 때 무엇이 남아있고. 무엇을 가져갈 수 있는 걸까? 관 속에 누워있는 나에게 남아 있는 것은 도대체 무엇 일까?"

나도 모르게 갑자기 눈물이 줄줄 흘러 내렸습니다. 눈물을 줄줄 흘리며 저자신에게 이런 물음이 저절로
떠올랐습니다.
그때서야 저는 비로소 깨달았습니다.

"아하. 마음이구나.
죽어서 관속에 누워 있는 나에게 남아 있는 것은 마음이고. 이 관 속으로 들어올 수 있는 것도 역시 마음뿐이구나!
그렇다면 남아 있는 삶을 어떻게살아야 하지? 그래. 잘 살아야지. 마음을 잘 가꾸며 잘 살아야지.
그렇게 다짐을 하는 데도 제 눈에서 흘러 내리는 눈물로 얼굴에 덮혀있는 천이 젖을 정도로 눈물이 멈추지 않았습니다. 세상을 잘못 살아온 참회의
눈물이었습니다.
그러던 중 스님이 관을 두드리는 소리에 정신을 바짝 차리고 관 밖으로 나왔습니다."

이 세상 어느 누구나
빈 손으로 태어 났다가 빈 손으로 가는 것이 인생입니다.
한번 태어났으니 죽음을 피해갈 수 없습니다. 삶의 시간은 생각보다 너무 빠르게 흘러갑니다.
나이가 들어감에 따라서 시간은 더 빠르게 흘러 가는거 같습니다.

그런데도 불구하고 사람들은 마치 자신은 죽지않고
영원히 살 것처럼 행동합니다.
세계적인 정신적 지도자 달라이 라마도 똑 같은 말을
했습니다.
"사람들은 마치 죽지 않고 영원히 살것처럼 살아간다고!" 죽음이 자신만은 비켜 갈 것처럼 행동 하는 사람들도 많이 있습니다. 돈과 재물. 명예와 권력에 집착하며 악행을 일삼기도 합니다.

거짓과 위선으로 더럽고 추악한 삶을 누리며 사는 사람 들도 너무 많습니다.
개혁의 대상인 정치인들이 개혁을 외쳐댑니다.
전 요즘 정치인 들이 여기저기다니며 떠들어 대는 말을 듣고 있노라면
혐오감마저 느낍니다.
도덕과 윤리.
책임의식.
양심마저 다 내팽개친 사람들 같습니다.
가장 부패하고 타락한 집단이 정치 집단인 거 같습니다.

저는 국회의원 정족수를 100명 이하로 확 줄이고
무보수 봉사직으로 전환하라고 주장하는 사람입니다.

국회의원에게 주는 세비로 가난하고 소외된 사람들에게 베풀어야 된다고 생각합니다. 현행 국회의원 정족수와 세비는 고비용 저효율 구조입니다.
어쨌든 아무리 그렇게 발버둥
치며 살아도 가까운 시일내에 모두 다 분명히 죽습니다.

죽음 앞에서 후회 하지 않는 삶을 산다는 것이 결코 쉬운 일이 아닙니다.
그러나 적어도 자신이 죽은 후에
남겨진 사람들에게 어떻게 기억되었으면 하는지 한번쯤
생각해 보아야 합니다.

백년전쟁때 영국의 태자였던 에드워드의 묘비에는 다음과
같이 새겨 있습니다.

"지나가는 이여.
나를 기억하라.
지금 그대가 살아 있듯이 한때는 나 또한 살아 있었노라.
내가 지금 잠들어 있듯이 그대 또한 반드시 잠 드리라."

유럽과 인도.
그리고 이집트까지 정복했던 그리스 제국의 알렉산더 대왕은 다음과 같은 유언을 남겼습니다.
