염치(廉恥) **

사람은 밥으로만 살아가는 존재가 아니고,
한 줌의 양심(良心)과
한 줄의 염치(廉恥)로
살아가는 존재.

염치는 남의 시선을 두려워하는 마음이 아니라,
아무도 없는 새벽,
자신의 마음 앞에 홀로 서서
스스로를
살피는 성찰(省察)이며
옳고 그름을 헤아리는
분별(分別)의 등불.

잘못을 알면
변명보다 먼저 고개를 숙이고,
받은 은혜(恩惠)는
세월이 흘러도 잊지 않으며,
내 것이 아닌 것은 비록 황금이라도 탐하지 않는 마음.

그것이 바로
사람을 사람답게 하는
염치(廉恥)의 시작

높은 자리에 올라도
겸손(謙遜)을 잃지 않고,
많이 가졌어도 배려(配慮)를
먼저 생각하며
많이 배웠어도
스스로를 낮출 줄 아는 삶.

그 삶에는,
욕심보다 도리(道理)가 앞서고,
이익보다 의리(義理)가 앞서며,
말보다 실천(實踐)이
먼저 걸어간다.

꽃은 향기를 자랑하지 않고, 강물은 깊이를 말하지 않으며, 익은벼는 말없이 고개를 숙인다.

사람 또한 그러해야 한다.

덕(德)은
입으로 말하는 것이 아니라,
삶으로 피어나는 향기.

염치(廉恥)는
법(法)이 세우는 담장이 아니라
양심(良心)이 세우는 문지방

그 문지방을
넘지 않으려는 마음이
한 사람의 인격(人格)을 만들고,
한가정의,가풍(家風)을 세우며, 한나라의 품격(品格)을 높인다.

세월은 젊음을 데려가고,
재물은 주인을 바꾸며,
명예는 바람따라 흩어질지라도
염치(廉恥)는
한 사람의 이름을
오래도록 빛나게 한다.

오늘도 나는
남의 허물을 찾기 전에
내 허물을 먼저 돌아보고,
남을 꾸짖기 전에
내 마음을 먼저 다스리며,
받은 은혜는 깊이 새기고,
베푼 사랑은 잊으며,
작은 거짓에도 얼굴이 붉어지고,
작은 잘못에도
가슴이 무거워지는,
그런 사람으로 살아가고 싶다

사람은 많이 가진 것으로 기억되지 않고
얼마나 높은 곳에
올랐는가로도 기억되지 않는다.

마지막까지
염치(廉恥)를 잃지 않았던 사람.

의(義)를 따르고
예(禮)를 지키며
양심(良心)을 끝내
저버리지 않았던 사람.

그 한마디가
내 삶을 가장 아름답게 완성하는 마지막 이름이 되기를 바란다.

廉者不辱(염자불욕)
청렴한 사람은
욕됨을 당하지 않고

知恥近乎勇(지치근호용)
부끄러움을 아는 것은
용기에 가깝다.

그 가르침을
가슴에 품고 살아가는 하루하루가 곧 사람의 길이요.
삶의 품격이요.

Even if I rise to a high position
Without losing humility,
Even if you have a lot, consideration
Thinking first
Even if I’ve learned a lot
A life that knows how to humble oneself.

In that life,
Principles come before greed,
Loyalty (義理) takes precedence over profit,
Actions speak louder than words
I’ll go ahead and walk.

Flowers do not boast of their fragrance, rivers do not speak of their depth, and ripe rice bows its head silently.

People should do the same.

Virtue (de) is
Not saying it with the mouth,
A fragrance blossoming through life.

Shamelessness (廉恥) is
Not a wall built by law
The threshold built by conscience

That threshold
A mind that does not want to cross
Create a person’s character,
Establish the family ethos of a household and elevate the dignity of the Han state.

Time takes away youth,
Wealth changes its owner,
Even if honor scatters with the wind
Shamelessness (廉恥) is
A person's name
Make it shine for a long time.

Today, I too
Before finding someone else’s fault
First look back at my faults,
Before scolding others
First, control my mind,
Deeply engrave the grace you have received,
Forgetting the love I gave,
Even a small lie makes his face flush,
Even a small mistake
My chest feels heavy,
I want to live as that kind of person

People are not remembered as having a lot
How high
I do not even remember whether it went up.

Until the end
A person who did not lose their sense of shame.

Follow righteousness
By observing propriety
Finally, conscience
The person who did not

betray.

That one word
I hope you become the final name that completes my life in its most beautiful way.

A virtuous person shall not be dishonored
An honest person
Without being insulted

Beneath shame lies near courage
Knowing shame is
It is close to courage.

That teaching
Each day we carry in our hearts is the way of man.
The dignity of life.
The shame of integrity
