가장 늙은 오늘과 가장 젊은 오늘

어느 강연회에서 명사초청 특강에서 나온 이야기입니다. 
그날의 초청 강사는 명의로 꽤나 이름이 높은 권위 있는
의사 선생님이셨습니다.

건강에 대한 대중 강연을 하시면서 그 의사 선생님이 사람들
에게 질문을 했습니다. 

"이거 먹으면 오래 삽니다.
이것은 무엇일까요?"

사람들은 잠시 생각하며
웅성거리기 시작했습니다. 
그때 내 뒷자리에 앉아있던
분이 손을 번쩍 들고 말했다. 
"밥입니다." 

밥 많이 먹으면 오래 살죠?
밥이 최고입니다. 
사람들은 유쾌하게 웃었지만, 원하는 답은 아니었습니다. 
물, 홍삼, 버섯 등 사람들은
여러 가지를 말했습니다.

어떤 사람은 확신에 찬목소리로 "욕입니다." 
욕먹으면 오래 살죠?라고 말해
또, 한 번의 폭소를 자아냈죠.

사람들이 다양한 답들을
여기저기서 쏟아낼 때
강사 선생님은 이렇게 말했죠. 
❓"정답은 나이입니다." 

나이 많이 먹으면 오래 사는 거잖아요? 
사람들의 허를 찌르는
재미있는 문답이었습니다. 
모두들 즐겁게 웃었습니다. 

그렇게 사람들을 즐겁게 하고 
강사는 다시 건강에 대한 강의를
계속했는데, 나는 그 질문이
재미있으면서도 매우 인상적인
면이 있다는 것을 알았습니다. 

왜냐하면 스스로에게 이렇게
질문을 해봤기 때문입니다. 

"이거 먹으면 죽습니다. 
이것은 무엇일까요?"

이 질문에 대한 대답도
역시 "나이"입니다.
