411. 치매와 소금
원래의 이야기는 강원도 철원 출신 몽골 사업가 안홍조 씨의 글입니다.
<치매>는 자신은 물론 가족과 이웃 지인들 모두를 곤혹스럽게 만드는 무서운 질병으로 치료법이 없다는게 현재까지의 정설입니다.
1956년생(70세)인 제가 고향 철원에서 운영하던 사업체(주. 삼흥관광)를 동생에게 물려준 후,
이역만리 몽골로 들어와
외국인 최초로 토지(2,311평방미터)를
매입 후, 건물을 축조하고, "동대문"이라는 상호로 몽골 최초 한국식 대형 사우나를 설립, 운영하였더니
순풍에 돛단듯 사업이 번창하기 시작한 얼마 후,
<치매>의 조짐을 느껴 경희의료원의 진료를 받게 되었습니다.
담당의는 박기정 교수님!
교수님께서 문진을 마치신 후, 말씀하신 한마디,
"치매(痴昧)!입니다."
천둥소리처럼 들린 이 한마디가 70평생을 살아온 저의 인생을 송두리채 흔들어 놓았습니다.
이어서 하시는 말씀,
"음식을 싱겁게 드십시요"
집에 돌아온 후, 모든 음식에서 소금을 배제한, 저염식단으로 바꿨지만
치매는 야속하게도 점점 더 심해져 갔고, 사업은 물론 일상생활조차도 어려워 졌습니다.
거래 상대방의 이름과 상호, 현금 입, 출금 및 거래내역조차 기억하지 못하면서, 길을 나서면 "내가 어디를 가려고 했지?"
목적지에 도착하면,
"내가 왜 여기에 왔지?
차를 타고서도,
"어디가는 차지?"
내가 뭘 사긴 샀는데,
물건은 어디 있지?
반복되는 건망증과 소지품의 유실(流失)로 신경은 극도로 날카로워졌고, 가족과의 마찰도 극도로 심해졌습니다.
사소한 이유로도 아내를 책망하고 핍박했습니다.
여러 병원을 찾아 꾸준히 처방 약을 복용했지만,
차도는 커녕, 내 자신이 나를 생각해도 한심할 정도로 상태는 악화되었고, 모든 일에서 자신감을 상실했습니다.
몽골로 돌아 온 어느 여름날, 동부 몽골농장을 다녀오다가
"도르노드 아이막 마타드 솜" 군수님댁에 잠시 들려 당시
나눈 대화가 불현듯 생각났습니다.
당시 88세되신 군수님이 먼길을 왔다고 "자기 집에 들려 차 한잔 하고 가시라" 하여 집에 들렸는데,
백발 노파가 계셔서 "저분은 누구십니까?" 여쭸더니,
"에찌(어머니)라고 하여, 깜짝 놀라 연세를 물어보니,
"123세"라고 하셔서,
"사람이 어떻게 이렇게 오래 사실수 있냐?" 물었던 바
"어머님이 몽골에서 가장 나이가 많은 분"이라 하셨습니다,
"무엇을 좋아하시고 많이 드십니까?" 물었던 바,
우리 어머님은 "고기와 소금" 말고는 아무 것도 안드신다,하여 깜짝 놀랐습니다.
그 후 저는, 의사의 저염식(低鹽食) 권고를 무시하고 "소금섭취량"을 대폭 늘려 "국"도 소금을 더해 짜게 먹었고, 커피와 차도 "설탕"대신 "소금"으로 간을 맞춰 먹었는데, 놀랍게도 치매가 호전되기 시작했습니다.
병원 진료를 거부하고, 내복약을 끊은 후,
아내에게 신신당부 기존에 섭취하던 소금의 양을 2배로 늘려 달라 하였더니
아내가 기겁을 하여 놀란 목소리로 "당신 미쳤냐?"
하기에, 제가 차분한 목소리로 "소금먹고 죽은 사람 봤더냐?"하고 되물었습니다.
그로부터 1개월 후,기억력이 조금 살아난듯 해서,
병원진료를 끊고 약 4-5년 동안 소금의 양을 점차 늘려 섭취한 결과, 치매 발병 전의 상태로 거의 돌아 오게
되었습니다.
그리고 나서 그동안 치매로 미뤄두었던 러시아 사업 재개를 위해, 흑해(黑海)변에 소재한 크라스노다르 (우크라이나와 카자흐스탄 사이/러시아 최 남단) 지방으로 인생 3막을 개척하기 위해 떠나려
준비중입니다.
지금, 황금, 소금,
이 세가지가 우리 인생의 3大 금<金>임을 명심하시고
소금으로 건강한 인생을 만끽하며 살아가시기를 바랍니다~~~
저는 소금의 양을 늘려 섭취한 이 후,지금까지 감기 한번 걸리지 않고 몽골 울란바타르에서 건강하게 잘 살고 있습니다.

예전 미국 마이애미 롱비치 법정에서
있었던 실화 한 토막을 소개합니다.
남편 없이 홀로 두 아들을 키워가면서
정성을 다해 교회를 섬기며 살아가는
중년 미국 여성분이 있었습니다.
어느 날 아들 형제가 절벽이 낀
산속에서 죽창을 던지며 전쟁놀이를
하고 있었습니다.

407. 우리의 가슴에 새겨진 다섯 문장
우리 민족의 가슴에 새겨진
"다섯 문장.
우리나라 사람이면 대부분 알 만한
문장 다섯 가지를 고른다면?
하고 생각해 보았다.
나의 애창곡처럼 우리들의 마음에
새겨진 문장' 이라고 이름 지을
것들 말이다. 우리의 마음에
새겨진 문장 다섯 중에
■ 첫 번째는
[죽는 날까지 하늘을 우러러
한 점 부끄럼이 없기를 잎새에
이는 바람에도 나는 괴로워했다.]
우리나라 사람들 에게 애송시를 물어보면
1위는 윤동주의 [서시]가 꼽히는데,
위의 글이 그 첫 문장 이다.
왜 이 문장이 우리의 가슴에
그토록 메아리 칠까?
겨레의 아픔과 함께 한 윤동주'
라는 시인과 詩가 지닌 고결한
마음과 멀리보면 기독교 불교 等
종교가 지향하는 깨끗한 마음을
통해서인 것 같다.
■ 두 번째를 꼽으라면,
]"신에게는 아직 열두 척의 배가
있사옵니다"] 이다.
한국인이라면 男女 없이 이 문장을
좋아한다. 선조는 누명을 쓰고
