그러나 아버지는 늘 말했습니다

"장사하는 사람은 부지런히 새벽에
일어나 준비하고 손님이 오면
강아지처럼 뛰어나와 반기면
장사는 잘 된다"고 했습니다
"그 사람의 내일이 궁금하다면
오늘 어떻게 사는지를 보면 알 수 있다
오늘 어떻게 사느냐가
내일의 답(答)"이라는 것입니다
아버지가 가장 많이 하신 말씀
"좋은 날만 계속되면 건조해져서 못써

마음씨가 있습니다.

남을 도우려고 하는 사람...
자기도 바쁘지만
순서를 양보하는 사람...
어떠한 어려움도

올 때 쉬고!
또 중간에 틈나는 대로 쉬고!
장자 사상의 중요한 특징(特徵)은
人生을 바쁘게 살지 말라는 것이다.
장자(莊子)는 우리에게
人生에 있어서 '일'을 권하는 것이 아니라,
소풍(逍風)을 권한 사람이다.
우리는 '일' 하러 世上에 온 것도 아니고,
성공(成功)하려고 世上에 온 것도 아니다.
그러나 최소한 우리는
이 삶을 하늘로부터 膳物 받아
이렇게 지구에 와 있지 않은가!
이 '삶'이라는 여행(旅行)은
무슨 목적지(目的地)가 따로 있는 것이 아니라,
그 자체가 목적인 것이다.
그러니,
이 여행(旅行) 자체를 즐겨라.
장자(莊子)가 말한
소요유(逍遼遊)란 바로 이런 의미이다.

252.정직은 최선의 정책
正直한 삶의 감동적인 실화!
🔹️어느 날 아주 성공한 회사 사주이자 대표가 관리직 직원을 모두 불러모았다.
그는 은퇴를 앞두고 회사를 자식들에게 물려줄 생각이 없었기에 관리직 직원중 한 명에게 대표자리를 물려줄 예정이라는 말에 직원 모두는 대표로 발탁되기를 꿈꿔왔다.
그는 모인 직원들에게 씨앗을 하나씩 나눠 주며, "지금 드린 씨앗은 아주 특별한 것으로 모두 다 다른 품종입니다. 1년후 얼마나 잘 길렀는지 볼 것입니다", 라며 "내년 오늘 날짜에 회사로 가져오라"고 하면서 "그 날 새로운 회사 대표를 발표하겠다." 는 약속을 했다.
빌(Bill)을 포함해 모두들 대단한 흥분을 감추지 못했다. 그런데 빌은 처와 함께 화분에 물을 주며 열심히 길렀는데도 전혀 싹이 나오지 않았기에 빌은 실망한 나머지 화분을 회사에 가져가려고 하지 않았지만, 빌의 처는 양심적으로 행동하기를 추구했기에 빌은 할 수 없이 빈 화분을 들고 회사에 갔다.
관리직원 모두 화려하고 멋있게 잘 기른 화분의 나무를 자랑하고 있었고, 빌이 들고온 빈 화분을 보고는 서로들 낄낄거리며 비아냥거렸기에 빌은 풀이 죽어 조용히 있었다.
드디어 회사 대표가 나타나서는 모든 화분을 조사한 후
그는 빌을 앞으로 불러내어, "왜 식물이 자라지 않았습니까?" 하고 물었고 빌이 자초지종을 얘기하자 모든 직원들은 웃었습니다.
"관리직원 여러분! 오늘 제가 약속한대로 새로운 회사 대표를 뽑겠는데 바로 빌이 새로운 회사 대표입니다."
그러자 모든 직원들이 비웃으며 그는 아무 것도 키우지 못했는데요 했고, 혹시 해고나 당하지 않을까를 걱정하던 빌은 더욱 큰 충격을 받았습니다.

우리 인간이 가져야 하고 지켜야 할 덕목 중에서 가장 기본이 되는 덕목이 정직(正直)입니다.
사람이 정직하지 않고 거짓말을 함부로 하여 믿음을 잃게 된다면 어느 누구로부터도 신뢰받지 못하게 되고, 결국 사회생활에 적응하지 못하게 될 것입니다.
영국 속담에 "정직이 최상의 방책이(Honesty is the best policy)"라는 속담이 있습니다.
🔹️한국에서 교사로 있던 분이 지상낙원이라고 불리는 미국으로 이민을 갔더랍니다.
한국 사람이 미국에 가면 언어가 통하지 않기에 한국에서 선생님을 했다고 할지라도 미국에 가서는 선생님을 할 수가 없어 하는 수 없이 세탁소를 차렸습니다.
새벽부터 저녁 늦은 시간까지 힘든 세탁소 일을 그는 꿋꿋이 참고 일을 하였습니다. 그러던 어느 날 손님이 맡긴 양복바지를 다림질 하다가 우연히 왼쪽 주머니 속을 뒤져보니 주머니 안에 1,000달러나 되는 거금이 들어있는 것을 발견했더랍니다.
깜짝 놀라 잠시 마음이 흔들렸지만, “이것은 내 돈이 아니지” 라고 이내 마음을 고쳐먹고, 옷 주인이 옷을 찾으러 오던 날 그 돈을 돌려주었더랍니다.
그 주인은 이에 너무 감동한 나머지 “그 돈은 이미 제 것이 아닙니다.”라고 하면서 세탁소 주인에게 다시 돌려주었지만 극구 받지 않았다고 합니다.
주는 사람이나 받는 사람이나 너무나 훈훈한 미담이었기에 그 이야기가 뉴욕 타임즈에 기사로 쓰여지게 되어 정직한 세탁소라고 주위에 널리 알려지자 일거리가 늘어나면서 무려 종업원을 20명이나 거느리는 세탁소 사장이 되었고,
이 뉴스를 접한 뉴욕에 본사를 둔 항공사 부사장이 이 세탁소를 직접 방문해서 세탁소 주인에게 “우리 비행기에서 나오는 모든 세탁물을 맡길 테니 정직하게만 일해주세요.” 라며 그 항공사 세탁 일까지 맏게 되여 지금은 700명이 넘는 직원을 보유한 거대한 세탁소 기업이 되었다고 합니다.
이러한 사례를 보면서 정직이야 말로 최고의 인생 스승이라고 생각하며, 정직하게만 산다면 언젠가는 반드시 성공하게 될 것이고 항상 두발 뻗고 자는 편안한 인생이 될 것이라고 확신합니다.

250. 자연의 힘
아프리카의 마사이족은 자연을 벗삼아 사는 사람들입니다.
그들은 필요한 단백질의 60% 이상을 고기에서 섭취합니다.
그런데, 똑같이 고기를 주식으로 삼고 있는 서구인들이 심장질환이 많은 반면에, 마사이족은 심장질환이 거의 없다는 것입니다.
그 이유는 마사이족들은 숲을 친구삼아 늘 걸어 다니고, 또 고기와 함께 각종 야생 채소들을 먹기 때문이라고 합니다.
또, 그 책을 읽으면서 식물의 색깔에 대해서도 새로운 사실을 알게되었습니다.
사람이 태양빛을 너무 많이 쬐게 되면, 자외선 때문에 피부암을 얻게 되는데, 식물도 역시 그렇게 망가진다고 했습니다.
그래서 자체 방위수단을 마련했는데, 이것이 바로 색깔이라는 설명입니다.
다른 말로 바뀌어 설명드리면, 색깔은 햇빛을 차단하기 위해 쓰는 양산이라는 것입니다.
사과는 빨간색 양산을 쓰고, 가지는 보라빛 양산을 걸칩니다.
귤은 노란색으로, 태양의 자외선을 차단하고 있다는 것입니다.
나뭇잎들이 푸른 색인 것도 식물의 세포가 살아남으려고 만들어낸 화학물질의 작용 때문입니다.
